Who we are
This website is published by KnifeProZAR (Pty) Ltd, a private company registered in South Africa under registration number 2008/016230/07, trading as It's a STEEL Knives & Sharpeners and also known as KnifeProZAR ("we", "us"). Our physical address, at which legal service may also be effected, is 74 Smit Street, Potchefstroom, 2531, South Africa. What we offer
We sharpen and repair knives, sell knives handmade by Willie Jordaan, sell genuine PUMA knives and accessories, and, as an authorised Wicked Edge dealer, sell Wicked Edge sharpeners and accessories. Prices for sharpening and for items in stock are published on this site; prices are confirmed when you enquire. All prices are in South African rand. We are not registered for VAT and no VAT is added.
How a sale works
This site does not take orders or payments. You enquire by WhatsApp, telephone or e-mail; we confirm availability, the price, and the delivery or collection arrangement; and a sale is concluded when you accept that confirmation and we accept your payment. We may decline to sell for any lawful reason, for example if the item has been sold in the meantime or the price was stated in error, and we will tell you if that happens.
Collection is from 74 Smit Street, Potchefstroom, during office hours. Delivery anywhere else in South Africa is by The Courier Guy at a flat charge of R150 per order, which you pay with the price. We do not sell or deliver outside South Africa.
Knives for sharpening may be sent to us with The Courier Guy, with our send-in form completed (online or the PDF) and a printed copy in the parcel. You pay the courier both ways: the parcel to us at your cost, and R150 for the return, paid together with the sharpening before the knives are sent back. Knives in transit are at your risk until we sign for them, and at your risk again once the courier has collected them from us; pack every blade so that it cannot cut through the packaging.
We never send banking details by e-mail. Payment details are given to you directly by Willie, and if you receive an e-mail with banking details purporting to come from us, do not pay: telephone us on 082 457 3499 first.
Age and safety
Knives are sharp tools and are dangerous if handled carelessly. Every knife leaves us as sharp as we can make it. You must be 18 years or older to buy from us, and you are responsible for knowing and complying with the law that applies to buying, owning and carrying a knife where you live. By buying from us you accept that we are not liable for injury, loss or damage arising from the use or misuse of a knife or sharpening tool after it has been handed to you, except to the extent that the law does not allow us to exclude that liability.
Sharpening and repairs
We sharpen and repair with care and skill, but sharpening removes metal and a repair changes a knife. By handing a knife to us you accept that a chip, a broken tip or thinning will alter the blade's shape, that some knives, particularly damaged, poorly made or previously badly sharpened ones, cannot be restored to new, and that we will tell you before we proceed if we find a problem that changes the quote. Knives left uncollected for more than six months after we have told you they are ready may be treated as abandoned.
Returns and refunds
If you are not satisfied with a knife you have bought from us, you may return it within 7 days of receiving it, unused, unsharpened and in its original condition and packaging, for a full refund or an exchange. The cost of returning it is yours unless the knife is defective or not what you ordered. If a knife arrives damaged or defective, tell us within 48 hours of receiving it and we will arrange a return, repair, replacement or refund at no cost to you. These terms do not limit any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008.
Handmade knives
A handmade knife is a one-off. No knife is repeated: a knife shown on this site as sold or as previous work is not available to order, and a knife made to order is a new piece in its own right, shaped as the making leads the maker, which may differ from any knife shown. Natural materials such as wood, bone and horn vary, and the photographs on this site show the knife pictured, not a production model. The dimensions and materials of each knife are stated on its certificate of authenticity. Knives made to order are quoted individually, and the quote states the price, what is included and the expected time to complete the knife.
Special orders
Some items, in particular Wicked Edge sharpeners, are not kept in stock and are ordered for you from the manufacturer abroad. The "from" prices shown for those items are indicative: they are calculated at the exchange rate and courier charges of the day they were published and include the manufacturer's price to us, international courier and insurance, South African import duty and VAT, and customs clearance. Before you pay, we confirm a firm price in writing, and that firm price is the price you pay; nothing further is payable on delivery except the R150 courier charge if you ask us to send the item to you. Special orders are paid in full in advance. We tell you the expected delivery time when we quote, normally about 30 days, and we will tell you promptly if the manufacturer or the courier causes a delay. Because a special order is placed and paid for abroad on your instruction, you may cancel it free of charge at any time before we have placed the order with the manufacturer; after that, a cancellation is subject to a reasonable cancellation charge reflecting the costs we cannot recover, as the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 allows. The manufacturer's warranty applies to every item; we will help you with a warranty claim.
PUMA knives
We sell genuine PUMA knives imported from PUMA in Solingen, Germany, as an authorised retailer. PUMA's descriptions and specifications are reproduced in good faith; natural materials vary and the knife you receive may differ slightly from the photograph. PUMA is a trade mark of its owner and is used here to identify the goods.
Privacy
When you contact us by WhatsApp, telephone or e-mail we receive your name, number or address and whatever you tell us. We use that information only to answer you, to carry out the work or sale you ask for, and to keep the records the law requires us to keep. We do not sell or share your information with anyone else, except a courier where you ask us to deliver, and we do not send marketing unless you ask for it. If you use our online send-in form, what you enter is received and stored by our website host, Netlify, and e-mailed to us and to you through our Gmail account. This website does not set tracking cookies of its own; the embedded map and videos are provided by Google and YouTube under their own privacy terms. You may ask us at any time what information we hold about you and ask us to correct or delete it, by e-mail to itsasteel100@gmail.com. We process personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013.
This website
The information on this site is provided in good faith and for general information. The articles on steels, blade shapes and sharpening are not advice for your particular knife, and nothing on this site is legal advice. We correct errors when we become aware of them but do not warrant that the site is complete or up to date. The text, photographs and drawings on this site belong to us or are used with permission and may not be copied for commercial use without our written consent. Links to other sites are provided for convenience and we are not responsible for their content.
General
These terms are governed by the law of South Africa. If any part of them is found to be unenforceable, the rest remains in force. We may change these terms from time to time; the version on this site when you enquire is the one that applies to that enquiry.
